    I have two 200w BougeRV panels in the mail right now. I tried a "classic" 120W panel after getting a Jackery 500... and that panel worked ok as long as it was fully in sunlight... but as soon as there was the equivalent of a pea shading it, the efficiency dropped like a rock. After looking around these CIGS panels caught my eyes, and what really got me was when it showed how well it could handle partial cover... the fact that I watched the really crazy videos of the panels being shot, run over, stepped all over and submerged in water after the fact and STILL worked, only made me more confident that the extra money for them are well spent. Personally I choose the version with holes... but ironically it seems as if you need to make the holes yourself you could actually do that without effecting the panel too much :p Not that I would do it, but still.

    Why are people saying lithium batteries last longer than lead acid when Ive seen deep cycle ones in golf carts last like 10 years or so while lithiums lose like half their power in 1?

  • @bethalpha
    @bethalpha 22 дня назад

    Lead acid batteries typically require a constant voltage charging profile, where the voltage is held constant and the current decreases as the battery charges. On the other hand, lithium batteries require a constant current-constant voltage (CC-CV) charging profile, where the current is held constant until the battery reaches a certain voltage level, after which the voltage is held constant. Using a lithium charger to charge a lead acid battery can result in overcharging, which can lead to excessive gassing, heat generation, and potential damage to the battery. It can also be dangerous as overcharging a lead acid battery can cause it to release hydrogen gas, which is explosive.

    You're forgetting ac2a is designed and geared towards a completely different group of people lol. You won't see any large bluettis being humped into the backcountry & the reason why it doesn't have a wireless phone charger is because one they're not efficient to charge a phone and you shouldn't be playing with your phone in the backcountry to begin with. By the way you can charge the ac2a with solar panels, we charged ours with a 100w renogy eflex folding panel. As for the light carry a flashlight if you are afraid of the dark

    Today Tesla offered me the opportunity to join its Virtual Power Plant to use my three Powerwalls in the next few months to earn (up to) ~$1,100. Each year SDGE pays me ~ 3 cents per kilowatt hour of my substantial excess production. I suspect Tesla will pay a bit more. I bet other viewers would appreciate your opinion on which is the best option. Care to opine, or make a video to explain these options?

    Forget about the non-backup power gridtie (feeding power back to the grid) solar systems that everyone is selling. With solar module and energy storage at historically low prices, it makes far more sense to DIY install your own off grid solar system. It's easy and inexpensive to do and during a power outage, your self-installed, off grid solar system will provide your home with power to run your appliances or charge your EV and you can still qualify for the Federal tax credit.

    Hello we have attempted to fix/ upgrade our solar system to accommodate our family to no avail. We are Army Veterans that decided to move totally off grid with our 3 kids. Despite our efforts we have problems when we get very little sunshine. It seems the batteries aren't charged enough to take us through the night. On an average day the sun would have charged our system and the inverter will go into the night displaying 50 volts. However, during a heavy rain we had 2 days ago that started at 9am and lasted all day, we went into the night at 44 volts! By midnight the alarm was sounding on the inverter and the power went off shortly thereafter. We also have this issue when we attempt to turn on the air conditioning...using it too close to sun down can cause the same issue. I was thinking we need a larger battery bank but someone told me I need more panels. Honestly I'm confused. Please help.

    I wanted to ask; is the vapor, or air around a battery bank really that bad? People think it is, but if its well ventilated I wonder if that's true still? And is the idea of the air around a battery bank not being good actual fact or just a myth?

    • @natenut1694
      @natenut1694 Месяц назад

      I've been personally involved with lead acid batteries since 2012 for my solar dc setup. The battery is in my bedroom but located near a window for ventilation. It doesn't smell nice from a very close proximity. I normally only get that close when topping up the battery with distilled water and making sure the wires are still securely connected. The battery doesn't see deep discharges even though it's a deep cycle flood lead battery. The rest voltage at night rarely ever drops below 12.4 volts. I use 2 solar arrays to gently but fully charge my 105amp battery every day. (panels angled to catch the most possible sunlight) I have it(battery) now since 2019. I use left over egg cartons to partly cover the caps where the gas escapes. This is to keep dust from entering the tiny holes. When the battery float charges I use the excess to dump that energy into home made diy lithuim power banks cause we get alot of solar energy through out the year.
